Sand & Cement Vs K-Rendering: The Differences

Sand & Cement Rendering

Most house rendering you see when driving around is traditional sand and cement. It has always held the standard for the most popular type of rendering in the UK for many years.

Sand and cement render is grey once finished, which means it needs to be painted afterwards. Because houses tend to be on the higher side, it's not something we recommend tackelling yourself. it's best to hire a painter with the correct equipment for the best finish.

The downside to this type of rendering is that you will need to pay additional money after the rendering job has been completed.

K-Rendering

The main difference with K-rendering is that it's more of a one-size fits all approach. Instead of having to paint afterwards, K-render comes in a variety of different colours. Once your house has been rendered, there nothing more that needs to be done.

K-rendering does have it's downside though. It tends to require more cleaning, especially if you live by the sea. The high winds means dirt and debris gets blown on your external walls.

If you do decide to go down the K-rendering route, you may need to have somebody pressure wash your home every so often if you want to keep it in great condition.

All Benefits Of Silicone Render Canterbury

Weather Resistant Properties

One of the main benefits of any type of rendering is weather resistance. This is even more important in the UK due heavy rainfall in the Winter. While all render tends to be weather resistant, K-rendering is the creme of the crop.

Unknown to some, it contains a silicone resin binder. Silicone means water vapour can flow freely throughtout the render. Only only does this prevent cracking, but also means it will last for many years to come.

Moves With Your Home

Over the years, the foundation of your home will change in size ever so slightly. while this is completely natural and nothing to worry about, it's also the reason why sand and cement render can be prone the cracking.

With silicone render, it's more flexible (hence the word: silicone!). That means that there is much less chance of it cracking, providing it has been applied correctly by a trained k-rendering company.

Better for the envionment...

Not only is K-rendering made with eco friendly materials; but that's not the main reason. The main reason is it will likely require fewer repairs compared to traditional render, leaving less of a carbon footprint.

FAQ

  • Can K Render be used on both new and existing buildings?

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • Does K-Rendering Help With Insulation?

Yes, k-render is known for it's insulation properties. It has been approved by BBA as an external wall insulation.

However, it doesn't stop there. You can also combine other external wall insulations as well as k-render. The most popular is EPS.

The benefit to this is that you will save money on the heating bill during Winter times. And we all know how expensive that can be in the UK!

  • What Are The Drying Times For K-Rendering?

The drying times are different depending on the season. In the Winter months, the base coat can take up to 38 hours. In the Summer, it's around 24 hours.  Once the base coat has dried, we can apply the final coat.

Drying times are not as important for silicone based rendering because you will not be painting afterwards.
